Sound Therapy utilizing The Listening Program (TLP) ® offers a friendly home program to enhance auditory processing and decrease sound sensitivities. The ideal listening schedule involves fifteen minute home listening sessions two times a day over an extended period of time (minimum of twenty weeks). Adults may listen once a day for 30 minutes over the same extended period of time. To maximize its benefit and support generalized development, it is recommended that this program be used in conjunction with a formal Sensory Diet. Parental completion of the Overview Series is suggested as a prerequisite for this service to help with intepretation of behavior and the creation and use of a Sensory Diet.
Specialized music, a portable music player (either compact disc or digital media) and headphones are required for this program. The initial cost of the equipment can range from $500 to $1500. Headphones and media players used with other sound therapy programs may be suitable for use with this program, however, it is advisable that no additional related equipment be purchased without consultion. Sale on equipment ($135 to $200 savings) ends June 30, 2010.
TLP is designed to be used at home throguhout the week, which not only helps to make this an affordable therapeutic intervention, but also allows participants to incorporate the sound therapy into a highly beneficial dialy routine or "Sensory Diet". Upon beginning the program, parents or adult participants will consult briefly with Christy over the phone or by email on a weekly basis. Once a therapeutic level and routine has been achieved, the frequency of consultation is commonly decreased to an as-needed basis.
